Happy Feast Day to the Syro-Malabar community in St. Michael’s as they celebrate the feast of their patron St. Alphonsa on Saturday 27th July; through her intercession may they grow in faith and love.
St. Alphonsa is the first Indian born female Saint of the Church, of the Syro-Malabar Rite. She was born in 1910 and became a nun with the Fransciscan Clarist Congregation in 1936. She was a teacher but suffered very poor health, she died on 28th July 1946; she was canonised by Pope Benedict in 2008.
